Dr. Bernice King, the King Center family and Board of Directors join the world in mourning the loss of our beloved Muhammad Ali, a man of outstanding courage, profound faith, and unconditional love. We extend our sincere condolences to Lonnie Ali and the entire Ali family.
In taking a stand against the Vietnam War as a conscientious objector, Muhammad Ali demonstrated that his dignity, integrity and the humanity of the Vietnamese people were more important than fame and fortune. He was admired by my father, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and became a cherished friend of my mother, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, who recognized his greatness by awarding him the Martin Luther King Jr. Sports Medallion in 1970. He was again honored by the King Center in 2014 when he was bestowed the Salute to Greatness Award, one of the King Center’s highest awards.
The world has lost a true hero and beacon of God’s love for all humankind; a champion for justice, peace and nonviolence. He will forever be remembered in our hearts.
